In rural Uttar Pradesh, around 96% of children aged 6-14 are enrolled in schools.
But access to school does not always mean access to learning.
According to ASER 2024, only 27.9% of Grade 3 children in government schools in rural Uttar Pradesh could read a Class 2-level text.
For us, this raises a simple question:
That is where LECIN works.
We work in the early years from Anganwadi through Grades 1 and 2, when children are beginning to understand numbers, language, themselves and the world around them.
Across six government schools in Dankaur,Greater Noida, our educators work daily with nearly 400 children. Our educators are women from the local communities whom we train and support. Our classroom sessions focus on three foundations:
Thinking : asking questions, observing, exploring and solving problems.
Expression : sharing ideas through words, stories, drawing, writing and play.
Connection : understanding oneself, others, the community and the world around us.

We want children not only to learn how to read and write, but also to think, express themselves and understand the world around them.
Our model is designed as a continuum : three years of Anganwadi, followed by Grades 1 and 2, so that learning does not have to start again from zero every time a child moves to the next stage.
Along with daily learning sessions, the programme includes learning materials, a healthy snack, teacher support, regular assessments and monitoring.
